Norman J. Kmoch, 79, of Dent, Minn., died on Monday, May 18, 2009, on the family farm, under the care of his wife Laura and Lakeland Hospice.
Norman John Kmoch was born to August and Bertha (Noess) Kmoch on June 4, 1929, at the family farm near Dent. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dent. Norman worked for Edling Electric until he was drafted, serving in the U.S. Army from January 1953 to November 1954. He attended North Dakota State University on the G.I. Bill, receiving his BS.E. degree, and began working at Sperry Univac Corporation. On March 17, 1962, he married Laura Fick. They moved to Burnsville, Minn., in 1964.
Norman retired in 1989, and in 1995 he and Laura returned to the family farm near Dent, where he enjoyed living the remaining 14 years of his life.
Surviving Norman are his wife, Laura; two sons, Brad (Nancy) Kmoch and Doug (Julie) Kmoch; and his five grandchildren. Preceding him in death was an infant son, Jeffrey Kmoch (April 28, 1963).
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m Thursday, May 21, at St. Paul's Lutheran Loon Lake Church in rural Vergas, with the Rev. Robert Hinckley officiating. There will be visitation at the church for one hour prior to the service.
Interment is set for 1:45 p.m. Friday, May 22, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. A memorial service will follow the interment at 3 p.m. Friday, May 22, in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, St. Paul.
Memorials are preferred sent to Lakeland Hospice or MeritCare Foundation: Roger Maris Cancer Center.
