Norman E. Nelson, 86, of Lake Park, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010.
Norman Elmer Nelson was born to Ernest and Minnie (Olson) Nelson on February 10, 1924 in Glyndon, Minn. He attended District 2 country school and Lake Park High School, graduating in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy and then attended the Institutional On-Farm Training Class at the Detroit Lakes High School.
Norman married DeLoyne Eilertson on April 4, 1947 at the Lake Park Lutheran Church parsonage. They purchased the farm in 1949 and he lived there the rest of his life. He cherished his time with family and friends, and his passions were family, farming and playing cards.
Norman was a member of the Lake Park American Legion, served on the selective service system, the Lake Park Elevator Board and was active in Strandvik Lutheran Church.
Surviving Norman are his wife of almost 63 years, DeLoyne; two daughters, Diane Levin and Bonnie Erickson; three sons, Kevan (Nancy) Nelson, Curt (Barb) Nelson, and Barry (Jamie) Nelson; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Norman in death were his parents; two brothers, Rollie and Arvid; three brothers-in-law, Bud Tufton, Harvey Olson and Jerain Eilertson; and one son-in-law, Charles Erickson.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 12, with a 6 p.m. prayer service, at Wright Funeral Home, Lake Park.
Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13 at Strandvik Lutheran Church, rural Lake Park, with interment in Strandvik Lutheran Church Cemetery.
