Northwest Water Carnival continues through this weekend in Detroit Lakes
Detroit Lakes’ 79th Annual Northwest Water Carnival is in full swing this week, with activities planned daily through Sunday, July 20.
Bingo lovers can hit the jackpot on Thursday, as Bingo goes from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Pavilion. And who will be crowned the Home Brew Champion? That will be determined at Zorbaz, where locals will be sharing the love with their own unique brew blends. The NWC American Legion Baseball Classic starts at 6 p.m. Thursday and continues through the weekend.
Friday begins with a kids’ party at the City Park, as inflatable games will be set up from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Big kids (adults) will also be down there competing in the Bed Races at 7 p.m. The Roosters take the stage of the Pavilion later that night for an evening of music and dancing.
On Saturday, a Fun Run/Walk kicks off at 7 a.m. at the pavilion, with music on the beach kicking off at 8 a.m.
The annual Chili & Salsa Cookoff begins at 8 a.m. on the city beach and pavilion. A public taste tasting begins at noon.
Adorable pets compete in a pet show at 9 a.m. at the City Park, as the Northwest Water Carnival Softball Tournament starts at 9 a.m. at Snappy Fields and the Baseball Classic is at 10 a.m. at the Washington Ball Park.
A Paddle Board Race takes to the lakes at 10 a.m., as the Pet and Doll Parade also makes it way down Washington Avenue at 10.
A Classic Car Show begins at 11 a.m. in the parking lot north of the pavilion. Inflatable games for the kids, Picnic in the Park, a sandbag tournament and a sand volleyball tournament will also be happening down at the pavilion/beach park area around lunchtime.
The annual Bash on the Beach, featuring the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band will get everyone ready to party down by the pavilion at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door.
