'Norwegian Footprints' exhibit opens Saturday
The Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County (HCSCC) announces a new traveling exhibit, "Norwegian Footprints," on display March 19 through June 27.
An opening reception for the exhibit is scheduled this Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Hjemkomst Center.
The exhibit displays color photographs by photographer Jan Johannessen of contemporary Norwegian-Americans around North Dakota and reminds us of the men and women who came from Norway to help build our country.
The exhibit text reveals the photographer's exploration of the descendents of his fellow countrymen who left Norway more than 100 years ago to settle in this region.
The History Lecture Series also begins at 2 p.m. in the Hjemkomst Center, with Dr. Verlyn Anderson.
Dr. Anderson will be discussing Norwegian Immigrant Settlements in North Dakota.
This event is free and open to the public.
Admission rates to the Hjemkomst Center museum are $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and college students, $5 for youth age 5-17, and free for children age 4 and under. The lecture presentation is free and open to the public.
Museum hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
The Hjemkomst Center is located at 202 First Avenue North in Moorhead.
