Not surprised by the Frazee School Board's actions
Was anyone surprised by Don Thorp getting the school board position? Not me.
Do you realize, according to the school board minutes of April 9, 2007, the school board will have to let Superintendent. Deron Stender know by May 1, 2010 if they intend to renew his contract? That means, we won't be able to vote for new school board members until the present school board lets him know if his contract will be renewed.
I am going to predict that something drastic would have to happen in order for that not to occur with the present school board. Is this district ready for more of Stender's reign? In my opinion, Brenda Como should, by all accounts, have gotten the school board position, but that would not have insured Stender another contract.
Can anyone tell me how Amie Erickson, the gymnastic coach, ended up being the most qualified for the business office assistant position out of 29 applicants?
It stated in the help wanted ad, that the applicant had to have the minimum qualifications to include: "Post secondary courses in secretarial, business and office management required, 3-5 year of previous administrative support experience preferred." According to the article in the Frazee Forum, dated Oct. 16, 2007, Amie has a degree in physiology.
In the Nov. 1, 2007 edition of the Frazee Forum, Amie was quoted as saying, "This is do or die, pass the referendum or the doors will lock..."
Stender has given the impression, more than once, that the Frazee-Vergas School District is saving $50,000 by not hiring "a" business manager.
I have added up the raises (that I know about) since the position was shared by Stender and staff members of the district administration, and I have come up with a savings just shy of $27,000. Now that is before their raises of this year, and if the rumors are true, we will have to cut quite a chunk off from the savings to pay for the new assistant.
I believe having four people take care of the business manager's position has to do more with Stender having control of the district's money (along with a lot of other things), and less about saving the district a huge chunk of change. Where are the checks and balances?
I want to thank board members Steve Jepson and Richard Ziegler for sticking up for the people in the Frazee-Vergas School District! The rest of the school board members, are you that naive to continue down the path you and Stender have taken?
How can you say you are doing what is best for this district, our children, when it has led to losing good teachers and staff members? When your decisions, in my opinion, have divided the community and caused mistrust and insecurity?
