Oak wins two events in Moorhead dual meet

Tuesday's meet in Moorhead was another good gauging opportunity for the Detroit Lakes boys' swimming and diving team, despite the 101-83 loss to the Spuds.

Laker Quillan Oak gained DL's lone first-place finishes in the 200 and 500 freestyle races, while Jon Melgaard was second in diving and the 100 breaststroke.

Others gaining silvers included Cody Okeson (50 and 100) and Cody Johnson (100 backstroke).

The medley relay team of Oak, Johnson, Olson and Okeson was also second, as was the 400 freestyle relay foursome of Okeson, Brandon Olson, Johnson and Oak.

Travis King was third in the 200 and 500 freestyles, Jared Olson was third in the 200 IM, Carter Krengel was third in the 50 freestyle, and Brady Eilertson was third in the 100 freestyle.

The medley relay team of Aaron Colby, Krengel, J. Olson, and Eilertson was third, as well as the 200 freestyle relay team of Pat Rethwisch, Ben Thompson, Mike Okeson, and Colby.

"The boys swam well, but they were not able to get the points we needed to win the meet," said DL head coach Rian Heimark. "I was pleased with their performance in the meet, and now I have an idea about where we need to improve."

The Lakers will host their home invite Saturday inside the BTD Aquatics Center, starting at 11 a.m.
