Odea A. Light, 84, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.
A mass of Christian burial for Odea was held Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes.
Odea Ann Erhardt was born to Kaspar and Anna (Doll) Erhardt on March 2, 1926 in Center, N.D., one of seven out of 15 children who were German-Russian immigrants born in the United States.
Odea was raised on a farm near Center, graduating from Oliver County School near Center. As a child she moved with her parents to Mandan, N.D., where she worked various jobs. She later moved to Montana and worked as a waitress. It was then that she met Dudley Light and they were united in marriage April 27, 1955 in Fargo. Odea lived in Fargo for over 40 years. She enjoyed spending time shopping, dancing, watching her soap operas and following Brett Favre's football career.
Odea was fascinated with astronomy, often dreaming about the stars and constellations with the wish of one day visiting the moon. She loved being outdoors, where she could listen to the birds sing and take in everything nature had to offer.
Odea will always be known for her love for family, generous spirit and her strong Christian faith. Life will seem empty without Odea.
She will be remembered and missed by her loving family, including daughter Janet Cooper of Detroit Lakes; two granddaughters, Rachael (Craig Bristlin) Cooper of Detroit Lakes and Crystal Cooper of Detroit Lakes; along with one sister, Pauline Esselman of Oshkosh, Wis.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and siblings Monica Kraft, Minnie Schwab, Bertha Renner, May Erhardt, Clementime Pfleger, Perpetua Erhardt, Madilda Erhardt, John Erhardt, Joe Erhardt, Ralph Erhardt, Rose Koffler, Christ Erhardt and Connie Erhardt.
