A power outage by the Detroit Lakes baseball team's offense ended its season in the double-elimination portion of the Section 8-2A playoffs Tuesday in Crookston.

The Lakers collected just two hits in their two losses to Warroad and Pelican Rapids, capping a solid season with a 14-10 record.

"We were disappointed in our hitting, we just didn't hit the ball hard," said DL head coach Steve Fuhs. "It wasn't like we were facing dominating pitching. It's disappointing in the fact that I thought we were hitting pretty well over the last three weeks."

The North's top-seeded Lakers opened Tuesday against No. 2 Warroad and pitcher Brett Hebel, as the Warrior hurler limited DL's bats to one hit in a 5-2 win.

The Lakers were able to scratch out two runs in the second inning for a 2-0 lead, due to three consecutive Warrior errors, but from that point on, DL gained just four more runners on base.

DL junior pitcher Brock Johnson pitched well enough to win, Fuhs said, but he still struggled some in finding the strike zone.

He finished by walking five batters, striking out six and allowing eight hits.

"Brock battled, but it wasn't his best stuff," the DL coach said. "But we couldn't help him (at the plate) either."

In the elimination game Pelican Rapids used their ace -- senior Tydan Storrusten -- who pitched a one-hitter, as well.

But this game wasn't close from the beginning, as the Vikings belted out an 8-0 lead after two innings, as DL struggled out in the field with eight errors.

The Vikings slugged out a total of 11 hits in the 12-0, five-inning win, with Sam Krueger collecting three hits and Storrusten, Jan-Erik Lindberg and Matt Skow-Anderson each having two.

"Pelican Rapids hit the ball hard, but we also helped them with some bad plays," Fuhs said. "Errors didn't determine the game, but some bad plays early just mounted through the rest of the game."

DL's Dillon Cole broke up Storrusten's no-hitter in the bottom of the fifth inning with a single, as senior Reed Oistad took the loss on the mound.

The Vikings will await the loser of Warroad and Fergus Falls Thursday in Crookston. The winner of the Warroad and Fergus Falls matchup will have to be beaten twice in the section championship game.

If necessary, the final section game will be Friday in Crookston at 3 p.m.
