Ogema teens face arson, burglary charges
Thomas Allen Mulholland, 17, and Matthew Silas Dodd, 17, both of Ogema, have been charged in Becker County Juvenile Court with three counts of first-degree arson, two counts of third-degree burglary, felony theft of a motor vehicle and misdemeanor minor consumption.
They allegedly set several structure fires, including the Aug. 18 fire of an unoccupied residence at Strawberry Lake access road.
They are also charged with an early morning fire at an empty structure on County Road 143, (about a mile from the first fire).
And they are accused of setting a 5 a.m. garage fire at 355th Street. A boat motor and trolling motor were allegedly taken from the garage prior to the fire, according to court records.
They were arrested by deputies who responded to a call from Three Bears Golf Course from owners who said several teens were apparently trying to steal an ATV. The teens put shirts over their heads to avoid identification and ran into the woods, but were later found in the area with wet shoes, torn clothing, and scratches. Mulholland allegedly admitted involvement in the arsons, and said the first one was done to cover extensive damage inside the house, according to court records.
Extended juvenile jurisdiction is being sought in both cases, meaning an adult sentence would be handed down along with the juvenile sentence, and could be imposed if the two don't remain law abiding.
Their next court appearances are Monday before Judge Jack Pearson.
