Oistad laces 6 RBIs in DL's victory over Hawley Hawks
A grand-slam and two-run single gave Detroit Lakes Angels shortstop Reed Oistad an impressive 2010 season opener, as the University of Minnesota-Crookston baseball player finished with six RBIs.
Oistad's grand slam came in the bottom of the eighth, which slammed down the coffin lid on visiting Hawley as the Angels cruised to an 11-3 victory Saturday at Washington Ballpark.
First baseman Phil Doll also collected a pair of hits for the Angels, while U of M-Crookston pitcher and DL native Brandon Johnson picked up the victory from the mound after pitching seven innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out six.
The Angels opened the tilt with three runs in the first inning, which included an RBI sacrifice fly by Phil Kirchner to score Concordia's Chris Gilson for the 1-0 lead.
A two-out single by Oistad gave him his first two of six RBIs, which scored Doll and catcher Doug Dickey.
The Hawks were hindered by six errors, while the Angels were perfect in the field.
Hawley did cut the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the third, before DL built it back up with a run in the fourth and two in the fifth for the 6-2 advantage.
The Angels will play tonight (Wednesday) at Washington Ballpark against the Moorhead Spartans, with a 7:30 p.m. start.
DL will get five of its college players back in the next couple of weeks.
