'The Old Maid & The Thief'

THE NORTHERN LIGHT OPERA COMPANY PRODUCTION, "The Old Maid and the Thief," includes actors (from left) Gail Haller, who will play nosy neighbor Miss Pinkerton; Mark Fulfs, the thief; Julie Kaiser, the Old Maid Miss Todd; and Brinn Krabbenhoft, Miss Todd's servant Laetitia.

The Northern Light Opera Company will present "The Old Maid and the Thief" in three performances this weekend at Hubbard's Long Lake Theatre, starting Friday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m.

The one-act, one-hour opera by Italian-American composer Gian Carlo Menotti tells the story of Miss Todd (Julie Kaiser) and "nosy neighbor" Miss Pinkerton (Gail Haller) whose lives have been upset by men.

Miss Todd's servant, Laetitia, (Brinn Krabbenhoft), is afraid of becoming a spinster, so she keeps beggar and suspected thief Bob (Mark Fulfs) around for company.

With the central theme, "The devil couldn't do what a woman can -- make a thief of an honest man," this enjoyable comic opera is accessible to all audience and should be a wonderful break from the cold Minnesota winter.

Additional performances are set for Saturday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 17 at 3 p.m. Tickets for all shows are $15 each, and can be purchased at the theater. For more information, call 218-732-7096.
