The old 'out of gas' ploy doesn't turn out well for Naytahwaush man
Cyril Lee Thompson, 35, of Box 2218, Naytahwaush, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony first-degree DWI - test refusal; felony first-degree DWI; and gross misdemeanor driving after his license was canceled as inimical to public safety.
According to court records:
About midnight on Friday, a tribal police officer allegedly came upon the vehicle Thompson was driving parked and obstructing traffic on County Road 24, about 2 miles north of County Road 143. A can of beer was on the dashboard. He said he was out of gas and was waiting for gas to be brought to him. He denied being the driver, refused to perform field sobriety tests and after being arrested, refused testing at the Becker County Jail.
A woman who was with him allegedly told the officer that Thompson was driving the vehicle, and that she didn't believe he was really out of gas because he had other intentions for stopping there with her.
He appeared Monday before District Judge Joe Evans, who set bond at $15,000 without conditions or $5,000 with conditions that include alcohol monitoring.
His next appearance was set for Aug. 17.
