Oren Amison Bursau's family says goodbye - to a husband of 60 years, to wife Donna; father of two sons, Maurice (Donna Marie) and Craig; daughter, Jannine (Richard); four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and faithful "Wonder Dog," Shatzii.

He is also survived by three sisters, Aevonne (Hiram) Coon of Lakewood, Colo., Yvonne (Clem) TeVogt of Detroit Lakes, and Nyo Lavon Schumoker of Pelan, Calif.

A former Detroit Lakes resident, Oren attended the Holmes School before enlisting in the Navy. He served in World War II on a carrier - the U.S.S. Bismark Sea. The Bismark Sea was lost at Iwo Jima when Japanese suicide planes attacked and sank the ship. More than 300 personnel were lost. Oren was a survivor on a life raft for an estimated 16 hours. He received several medals and a Purple Heart. God spared him.

Oren worked as an optometrist in Fargo before moving to Colorado Springs.

Oren was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Bailey, Colo., and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and D.A.V. Oren was an avid fisherman, loved camping, being outdoors, and living in the mountains.

Oren's parents were Oren A Bursau Sr. and Laura F. Frank Bursau.

A private military service was held at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were provided by All Veterans Funeral and Cremation, Wheat Ridge, Colo.

Thank you, Oren, husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, for your service. It was part of what makes this country great. Love you always, The Family.
