Passenger dies in deer-motorcycle collision

A passenger on a motorcycle that hit a deer Monday near Ponsford has died from her injuries.

Tammy Lou Lueders, 49, of Dassel died early Tuesday morning at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, according to the Becker County Sheriff's department.

The current condition of the driver, Bret William Lueders, 47, of Dassel, is not known, but he was seriously injured in the crash. He was taken to Essentia St. Mary's by ambulance and later taken to a Fargo hospital by helicopter.

Shortly after noon on Monday, Aug. 1, the Becker County Sheriff's Department dispatch center received a call reporting a motorcycle-deer collision on Becker County Road 39, approximately two miles north of Highway 34.

The 2000 Harley Davidson apparently struck a deer, causing the driver to lose control of the motorcycle. Neither the driver nor passenger were wearing a helmet.

According to Becker County Sheriff Tim Gordon, emergency workers from Carsonville Rescue, North Memorial Ambulance and St. Mary's EMS responded to the call.
