Paul C. "Curt" Chapman, 66, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes surrounded by family and friends, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Curt was born to Malcolm and Olivia (Caspers) Chapman on June 17, 1943 in Detroit Lakes, where he grew up and received his education, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1961. He attended Moorhead State University from 1963-1967.
Curt joined the National Guard in 1967 and served for several years. He worked for the Department of Natural Resources from 1968-1971. He then worked as a salesman for the S.C. Johnson Co. and Stein Chemical from 1972-1988. He lived in Wilmar, Minn., and Bismarck and Grand Forks, N.D., during those years.
Curt moved back to Detroit Lakes, where he worked a few years for Becker County Engineering. He later worked at the Frazee Golf Course and most recently at the Detroit Country Club, on the grounds crew. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing.
Surviving Curt are two brothers, Kenneth (Kathy) Chapman of Rochert and Mark Chapman of Detroit Lakes; one sister, Carol (Jon) Peterson, of Sarasota, Fla.; and two nieces.
His parents preceded him in death.
A memorial mass will take place at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 11 in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes.
There will be visitation for one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
