Paul A. Hazelton, 60, of rural Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Essentia Health in Fargo.
Paul was born the son of Boyd and Ella (Olson) Hazelton on February 20, 1953 in Detroit Lakes. He was raised and educated in Detroit Lakes. As a young man he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Vietnam War.
Paul was united in marriage to Kathleen Askelson on July 22, 1972 at Richwood Lutheran Church. In 1973, upon his return from active duty, Paul and Kathy made their home in Detroit Lakes. He started to work for Gabor Trucking and worked for several construction firms in the area. At the time of his death he worked at HS Contracting in Moorhead.
Paul enjoyed ice fishing, hunting, snow plowing, playing farmer and having a cold Schmidt beer. He loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Paul will be missed by his family and friends.
Surviving Paul are his wife, Kathy Hazelton of rural Detroit Lakes; three sons, Travis (Kristi) Hazelton of Lake Park, Tracy (Natalie) Hazelton of Moorhead and Troy (Kristi) Hazelton of Rochert; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Jim (Irene) Hazelton of Callaway, and Ronald Hazelton of Winthrop; two sisters, Berdella (Oskar) Schock of Tacoma, Wash., and Betty (Peter) Anderson of Detroit Lakes; three sisters-in-law, Annette (Elmer) Dibley of Ulen, Shirley (Richard) Larson of Detroit Lakes and Beverly (Dave Boman) Wang of Twin Valley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Paul in death were his parents and infant brother, Duane.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 2 at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with interment in Lakeside Cemetery, Richwood.
Visitation is set from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 1 at the funeral home.
