Paul "Mike" Potter, 60, who lived on Buffalo Lake, Detroit Lakes, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011, after a long winter battle with cancer.
Paul was born March 8, 1951, in Fargo, and attended grade school in West Fargo, where he spent his early years. He later moved with his mother to Barnesville, where he graduated from high school in 1969.
Paul attended Northwest Technical College, where he studied to become a maintenance energy technician. He spent several years as an over-the-road trucker and enjoyed seeing much of the United States. Paul also drove truck for Kost Bros. of Fargo, and spent several falls driving beet truck for local farmers.
Paul was skilled as an electrician, plumber, mechanic, and builder. He built his own home and later an antique barn on his property at Buffalo Lake.
Paul's passion was his large antique collection. He was especially proud of his antique telephone collection, which he had in working order. Working with all his antiques occupied many hours during his later life. He loved to tinker and fix to make sure everything ran smoothly in his shop.
Paul also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and tending to his garden.
Preceding Paul in death were his father, Howard Potter, Jr., and his grandparents on both sides.
Surviving Paul are his son, Steven of Detroit Lakes; his mother, Audrey Anderson of Detroit Lakes; sister, Cass Berg of West Fargo; and brothers Jim (Penny) of Gold Canyon, Ariz., Jack (Beverly) of Bismarck, and Mark (Michelle) of Detroit Lakes; along with two special friends, Corinne Renner, Moorhead and Sherry Thompson, Detroit Lakes.
A memorial service will be held for Paul at 1 p.m. Monday, June 6 in the Emmanual Nursing Home Chapel, 1415 Madison Avenue, Detroit Lakes.
