Pelican Rapids man charged after crash
A Pelican Rapids man has been charged with two counts of felony criminal vehicular operation in Becker County District Court, for allegedly being intoxicated when operating a car that was involved in a rollover crash during the early evening hours of Sept. 19, causing substantial injury to one of the vehicle’s passengers.
John Michael Duel, 20, of 49238 245th Ave., Pelican Rapids, had his bail set at $2,000 with conditions, or $6,000 without conditions, after a Sept. 20 appearance in Becker County District Court. His next court appearance is set for Nov. 4, at an omnibus hearing.
Duel was allegedly driving a pickup truck which rolled over on Mary Yellow Head Road, about 20 miles northeast of Detroit Lakes.
One of his three passengers, a 53-year-old Detroit Lakes woman identified as Audrey Boe, was taken by life flight to a Fargo hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to court records, Duel was questioned at the scene and stated that he lost control of the truck and it rolled. He also allegedly admitted to consuming 3 or 4 beers that evening. At the scene, two other passengers in the truck who were not injured stated that Duel was driving too fast and had been asked to slow down.
Law enforcement also allegedly found multiple empty beer cans at the scene, along with two bottles of vodka, one of which was opened. A breath test administered at the scene showed that Duel was arrested with an alleged alcohol concentration of .17.
