Pemberton, Sorlie, Rufer & Kershner Law Firm wins legal services advocacy award

The Pemberton, Sorlie, Rufer & Kershner Law Firm of Fergus Falls, has been awarded an Advocacy Achievement Award by Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota for their work as Judicare attorneys.

Legal Services serves low income and elderly residents of 22 northwestern Minnesota counties using offices in Moorhead, Alexandria and Bemidji, and the Judicare Panel, a group of 230 private attorneys throughout the region.

One attorney/firm is selected annually from each of four Bar Association Districts in the 22 counties to receive the Advocacy Achievement Award. The award is given "in recognition of outstanding legal work making a difference to the disadvantaged."

Richard L. Pemberton has been practicing law for over 30 years. He has been a member of our judicare panel since Jan. 18, 1977.

Oscar J. Sorlie graduated from the University of North Dakota Law School in 1968. He has been a member of our judicare panel since Jan. 13, 1977.

Stephen F. Rufer has been with the Pemberton firm since 1974. He has been a member of our judicare panel since Jan. 14, 1977.

H. Morrison Kershner graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1976. He has been a member of our judicare panel since Jan. 18, 1977.

Robert W. Bigwood graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1980. He has been a member of our judicare panel since 1980.

Michael T. Rengel graduated from the William Mitchell College of Law. He has been a member of our judicare panel since Dec. 26, 1986.

Kent D. Mattson graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1993. He has been a member of our judicare panel since Dec. 2, 1993.

Kristi A. Hastings graduated from the University of North Dakota Law School in 2001. She has been a member of our judicare panel since Oct. 15, 2002.

Katrina I.Wass graduated from the University of Missouri Law School in 2003. She has been a member of our judicare panel since Nov. 13, 2003.

Nicholas J. Heydt graduated from the William Mitchell College of Law in 2002. He has been a member of our judicare panel since Nov. 13, 2003.

Chad R. Felstul graduated from the William Mitchell College of Law in 2005. He has been a member of our judicare panel since Dec. 5, 2005.

The award was presented at the annual District Bar Meeting at Thumper Pond Resort, near Ottertail, on May 12.
