Perham to host walking tour July 31
Join the Otter Tail County Historical Society and the History and Cultural Association of East Otter Tail County for a tour of downtown Perham on Thursday, July 31, at 6 p.m. The tour begins at NP Park.
Unlike most communities its size, Perham retains many of its historic downtown buildings. A walk up and down Perham’s main street reveals details people may miss on a daily basis.
Intricate brick work, Italianate stylings and odd symbols adorn a number of buildings. Who constructed these buildings? What stories lie behind the facades?
The tour goes beyond architectural details to reveal stories about people and events that make up Perham’s history. What pool hall owner who, when arrested by the sheriff for bootlegging, would pay his fine in pennies and nickels to annoy the county attorney?
This and many other questions will be answered during the walk through historic downtown Perham.
Cost for the tour is $6. Refreshments will be served after the tour at the History Museum of East Otter Tail County, 230 1st Avenue North in Perham.
