Philip A. Kunz, 82, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, February 20, 2009 at his residence in Detroit Lakes.
Philip Arnold Kunz was born to Aloysius and Anne (Cash) Kunz on Dec. 7, 1926 in Madelia, Minn. He married Betty Crotts on Dec. 7, 1962, in Park Rapids; they divorced in June 1978. Phil grew up in Madelia and later relocated to Callaway, Rochert and Detroit Lakes. In addition to hobby farming, Phil dedicated 18 years as an employee of Tomlinson's Lumber in Callaway, where he drove truck and operated the forklift. He retired from Swift's after several years of employment.
Throughout his life Phil enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, playing sheephead and attending church every Saturday evening. Everyone knew and loved Phil for his gift of gab and his bountiful storytelling.
Phil will be remembered and missed by his loving family, Mark (Pam) McDonald of West Fargo, Laurie (Todd) Stugelmayer of Fargo, Linda (Scott) Rothenberger of Prior Lake, Minn., Sheri (Jason) Chelmo of Prior Lake, Minn., David Kunz of Detroit Lakes and Shelia (Matthew) Becker of St. Louis Park, Minn.; along with 13 beautiful grandchildren and two sisters, Helen Tasto of Madison, Minn., and Irene Johnson of Detroit Lakes.
Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Joseph, Leonard, Harold and Edward; and two sisters, Loretta and Alicia.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, with a Parish Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Friends may also call for one hour prior to the start of services Wednesday at the church.
A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes.
