Pierre VanWert

Pierre A. "Pete" VanWert, 69, of White Earth, died Sunday, May 11, 2008 at St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes.

Pierre Andre Van Wert, known as "Pete," was born to Sylvester and Charlotte (Defoe) Van Wert on June 17, 1938 in White Earth. He was raised and educated in White Earth and St. Paul. During his working life, he worked as a radiator repairman in St. Paul. Upon his retirement, he returned to White Earth.

Pete enjoyed fishing, "BS-ing" with the guys, playing horseshoe and playing cards.

Survivors include a daughter, Dawn (Brad) Plumley of St. Paul; a son, Perry Sherman of Deer River, Minn.; a stepson, Eugene Sherman of Bena, Minn.; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother, Sylvester VanWert of Milwaukee, Wis.; and a sister, Ona (Stanley) Richards of Stacy, Minn.

Preceding him in death were a daughter, Denise; a son, Craig; his parents; four sisters, Margaret, Ruth, Loanna and Monica; and three brothers, Leon, Arthur and Fenton.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 14 until 7 a.m. Thursday, May 15 at Circle Of Life School in White Earth, and at the church for one hour prior to services on Thursday. There will be a prayer service at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Circle of Life School.

A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in White Earth, with the Rev. Mitch Byeck, O.M.I., officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, White Earth.
