Pieta Brown comes to NYM
The Pieta Brown concert in the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center starts at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday, March 6, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
Pieta will be touring with Mark Knopfler this spring. The daughter of two preachers' kids, Pieta's early upbringing in Iowa was in a rural outpost with no furnace or running water, where she was exposed to traditional and rural folk music.
Later, while living with her mother in Alabama during her formative years, Pieta drew on and expanded these influences and began writing poetry and composing instrumental songs on piano.
After releasing two critically acclaimed albums in the last four years, Pieta has now signed with Red House Records. Steadily gaining attention across musical genres, the Iowa-based songwriter has toured with John Prine, Ani Difranco, Calexico, J.J. Cale, Iris Dement and Mason Jennings, among others.
Tickets for Saturday's show are $15 the night of the concert, or $12 advance sale.
