Plane crashes into Gull Lake in Cass County
BEMIDJI - Both occupants of an airplane survived when their ultra-light plane crashed into Gull Lake in Cass County Saturday evening.
According to a press release from the Cass County Sheriff's Office:
The airplane crashed into Gull Lake near Gull Point at about 7:20 p.m. and both occupants were pulled from the water and transported to shore by witnesses who observed the crash.
The operator of the airplane, Jonathan Kurilla, 43, of Brainerd, was arrested on suspicion of alcohol-related violations. He remains in Cass County Jail pending formal charges.
The passenger, Estelle Paulson, 35, of Nisswa, Minn., was transported to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd by North Ambulance for treatment of injuries she suffered in the crash.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
