Polar Fest returns to Detroit Lakes Feb. 8

Polar Fest is back in Detroit Lakes from Feb. 8-17.

Join in all week for The Good Neighbor Shoveling Campaign or check out the Vern Turner Memorial Bonspiel, Feb. 8-10.

The festivities begin Friday, Feb. 8 with the Daddy's Little Sweetheart Dance, which gets underway at 6 p.m. in the Historic Holmes Theatre. Just a short distance away at the Becker County Museum (across the parking lot from the theater), moms and grandmas can enjoy the "Hidden History Happy Hour" starting at 7 p.m.

Then on Saturday, Feb. 9, the DL Breakfast Rotary hosts its Poles 'N Holes Fishing Derby on the north side of Little Detroit Lake from noon to 3 p.m. At the Holiday Inn, the Big Detroit Vintage Snowmobile Races get underway at 11 a.m. on the ice in front of the inn. Afterwards, racers and spectators can enjoy the Polar Fest Kickoff Party inside the Holiday Inn, starting at 9:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Feb. 10, the first annual Winter Mini Golf Masters & Bean Bag Tourney takes place at BJ's Barbecue Shack, starting at 1 p.m.

Monday, Feb. 11, the Washington Square Mall will host a "Chocolate Chill" from 4 to 6 p.m., and photographer Joe Rossi will speak at the Detroit Lakes Library starting at 7 p.m.

On Tuesday, Feb. 12, the mall will hold its Polar Putt at 11:30 a.m., and the Historic Holmes Theatre hosts a concert by the Varying Degrees trio at 7 p.m. Over in the M State Cafeteria, there will be a "Polar-Riffic" Spaghetti Dinner served from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, Feb. 14 -- also known as Valentine's Day -- there will be a Sweetheart Wine Tasting at the Holiday Inn on the Lake's Ice House Restaurant.

Friday, Feb. 15, the celebration kicks into high gear with the Ice Tee Golf Tournament, starting at noon on the lake across from Zorbaz, and the Best Western Premier Lodge on the Lake will host live music from 6 to 9 p.m.

Saturday is the big event -- the 17th annual Polar Fest Plunge, which starts at 1 p.m. on Little Detroit Lake.

Also on Saturday, there will be a Polar Pancake and French Toast Feed at the DL Pavillion from 7 to 10:30 a.m., and the ULTRA Snowmobile Club will host its 10th annual Vintage Rally and Swap Meet on the Ciity Beach from 8 to 11 a.m.

The Freeze Your Buns 5K Run/Walk gets underway at 9 a.m. in front of the Detroit Lakes Community & Cultural Center, and there will be a Plunge Party at the Pavilion from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If that's not enough, there will be kick sled demonstrations near the Pavillion on Little Detroit Lake from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the 3rd annual Man & Machine Ice Motorcycle Race & Stunt Exhibition takes place in front of the Holiday Inn starting at 12:15 p.m.

The evening festivities get underway with a Tailgating Party on the lake in front of Zorbaz starting at 6 p.m., Winter Fireworks Display on the City Beach at 7 p.m., and the Polaritaville Dance at Zorbaz begins at 9 p.m.

Last but not least, the final day of Polar Fest on Sunday, Feb. 17 will include a Wine Chiller Tasting and Dinner at the Best Western Premier Lodge on the Lake at 5:30 p.m., followed by live music from 7 to 10 p.m.
