Police arrest two in car theft, looking into possible connection to recent spree
FARGO - Fargo police arrested two people in connection with a stolen car Tuesday night and are looking into whether the case may be related to a recent rash of car thefts in the metro area.
According to Sgt. Mark Lykken:
At 8:46 p.m. Tuesday, officers took a report of a light blue Buick stolen from The Northern.
Two officers on patrol at 11:51 p.m. in the 500 block of Third Avenue North noticed a light blue Buick and followed it, believing it was the stolen car from The Northern.
The car pulled over in the 500 block of Broadway. Officers ran the plate and found that it wasn't the stolen vehicle from The Northern, but that it had been reported stolen.
The driver fled the car on foot, and officers detained the passenger.
Officers located the driver at Hardee's about two blocks away.
The driver, Charles Edward Butcher, 26, of Moorhead, and a 16-year-old juvenile male were both arrested on suspicion of a stolen vehicle.
Butcher is being held in the Cass County Jail. The teenager is in juvenile detention and will be referred to juvenile court, Lykken said.
"Right now, the investigation is continuing and we are looking into the possibility that this vehicle theft is related to the spree of vehicle thefts in the area," he said.
