Ponsford man charged for assault with knife
George Robert Taylor, 22, of Box 91, Unit 3, Ponsford has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.
According to court and police records, at 1:51 a.m. on April 8, deputies responded to the report of a stabbing at County Road 124 in Pine Point.
Officers went to the residence and found Gerald Wayne Roberts, 48, Ponsford, with two serious knife wounds, one to the abdomen and one to the chest area. He was transported to St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes and underwent surgery.
When police arrived, he was lying in bed in the living room, holding a large bandage to the left side of his stomach. They observed two broken chairs on the floor and blood spots on the kitchen floor.
Taylor allegedly showed up intoxicated at the residence earlier in the evening, where he argued with his girlfriend and her mother. He allegedly became angrier and more agitated and began looking through kitchen drawers for knives.
He then threw two chairs in the house, one that almost hit Roberts, who then tried to get Taylor out of the house. At that point Taylor allegedly stabbed him on the left side of the chest while they were outside, and then stabbed him again in the stomach near the navel.
Taylor, who lives with the victim, was taken into custody shortly after 9 a.m. the same day.
He had left the scene prior to the officers arriving and was arrested without incident a few hours later, after being found hiding in a closet at a relative's house on Waboose Drive.
On April 9 District Judge Joe Evans issued an order of detention for Taylor.
