Ponsford man charged with fleeing
A Ponsford man made his first appearance last week in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.
Randy Lee Kettle, 30, of P.O. Box 111, Ponsford, was traveling on County Road 24 in Becker County on June 4 when a law enforcement officer spotted his vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, because the vehicle matched the description of one that was suspected of being involved in a possible burglary nearby.
Instead of pulling over, Kettle accelerated and drove away, traveling at speeds in excess of 72 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone. A chase ensued, and the vehicle turned onto 285th Street, lost control and entered a ditch.
The vehicle then turned back onto the road and entered a trail leading into the woods, continuing behind a ballfield before re-entering the woods on another trail.
The vehicle finally came to a stop after striking a downed tree.
Kettle is currently in custody at the Becker County Jail pending his next court appearance, at a Sept. 24 omnibus hearing.
His bail has been set at $5,000 with conditions, or $10,000 without conditions.
