Ponsford man in court for strangling woman
A Ponsford man made his first appearance Monday in Becker County District Court on two felony counts of fifth degree assault-two or more previous convictions within five years, and one felony count of domestic assault by strangulation.
Brett Warren Stevens, 18, of 49234 280th St., Ponsford, is accused of assaulting a female victim in the home they shared in Ponsford on Jan. 25.
According to court records, the woman said Stevens had punched her in the stomach and side, pushed her down on the bed and held a pillow over her head, causing her to almost pass out. He also allegedly punched her in the head, causing a lump to form.
Stevens also reportedly has three prior assault convictions on his record, including one for second degree assault with a dangerous weapon on Feb. 3 of last year.
He is currently being held at the Becker County Jail pending his next court appearance, at a Feb. 19 omnibus hearing. His bail was set at $15,000 with conditions, or $50,000 without conditions. A domestic abuse no contact order was also filed Monday.
