Ponsford man sentenced for stealing, burning car
George Robert Taylor, 21, of Box 91, unit 3, Ponsford has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony theft of a motor vehicle, value exceeding $2,500.
According to court records; on Aug. 6, he and another man went to a woman's house in Becker County. While the other two were watching a movie in another room, he left and stole her 2002 Oldsmobile Alero.
It was located a short while later, burned and left in a sewage lagoon in Pine Point. It was a total loss.
He pleaded guilty on Oct. 25 and was sentenced Thursday by District Judge Joe Evans to 17 months in prison, execution of sentence stayed 10 years. He was placed on supervised probation for 10 years.
He was ordered to serve 120 days in jail, with STS privileges granted, and was fined $1,000 plus court fees. He must pay $3,628 in restitution to Progressive Insurance Co. and another $500 in restitution to the victim.
He was ordered to get a chemical use assessment and follow the recommendations.
