Ponsford men in court for alleged threats, assault
Two Ponsford men made their first appearances in Becker County District Court recently on multiple felony charges including fifth degree assault (two counts each), terroristic threats and false imprisonment.
George Robert Taylor, 24, of P.O. Box 91, Unit 3, Ponsford, and Joseph Lee Butcher, 18, of P.O. Box 4, Waboose Drive, Ponsford, are accused of assaulting a male victim at a Pine Point residence on Jan. 10.
According to the complaint, Butcher allegedly became angry with the man, threw him down onto the couch, held him down by force and punched him in the face multiple times. Each time the man tried to get up, Butcher allegedly pushed him back down again and punched him some more.
Taylor allegedly encouraged Butcher's assault, ordered the man to take off his clothes, then ripped off the man's shirt and allegedly slashed a knife through the air in front of his face. As a result of this, Taylor is also facing an additional felony count of second degree assault with a deadly weapon.
Butcher has been released on $5,000 bond pending his next court appearance, at a Jan. 23 Rule 8 hearing. Taylor remains in custody pending his next court appearance, at a Jan. 18 Rule 8 hearing. His bail has been set at $25,000 with conditions, or $50,000 without conditions.
