The Detroit Lakes Water Carnival Legion Baseball Tournament started off well for the Post 15 squad, as they downed Park Rapids 5-3 Thursday at Washington Ballpark.

DL pitcher Ryan Cihak went the distance, allowing three runs – all unearned – while striking out five and walking just two.

“Ryan pitched well, he was throwing a hard curve, which was really diving for him,” said DL head coach Mitch McLeod.

Offensively, Reed Johnson went 3-3, including two crucial RBIs to give Post 15 a 4-1 lead.

Park Rapids produced a pair of runs in the sixth inning, after recording two bunt hits. But two Post 15 errors contributed to both runs scored in the frame.

“We have given up a tremendous amount of unearned runs up this year,” McLeod said. “Our pitching has been good all through the season, though.”

Post 15 fell to East Grand Forks twice in Wednesday’s doubleheader by the scores of 10-0 and 5-1.

That puts DL at 7-7 in the district.

The Water Carnival tournament is wrapped up Saturday, while the District playoffs start Wednesday in Moorhead.
