Powwow in Pine Point: Annual community event set this weekend
Bring the family to experience the annual Pine Point Pow Wow.
The 2013 event will be held this Friday through Sunday, Aug. 9-11, and will offer a variety of activities.
The weekend opens with a demolition derby, which will be held on Friday at 5 p.m.
Rise bright and early on Saturday to participate in the Joe Bush Memorial 5k run or walk at 8:30 a.m.
The flag-raising will begin at 10 a.m., followed by grand entries at 1 and 7 p.m. Enjoy time with the community and a delicious meal at a feast beginning at 5 p.m.
The flag-raising on Sunday will also occur at 10 a.m.
Line the streets to watch the Rez Car Parade at 11 a.m. Sunday’s grand entry will begin at 1 p.m.
Native American craft stands will exclusively be available.
Organizers of the powwow welcome all drummers and dancers. Attendees are also encouraged to bring family flags to the event. A Princess and Brave contest will also be featured.
Located a half mile west of the Pine Point School in Ponsford, campsites with showers are available, and security will also be provided.
Drugs and alcohol are prohibited from the powwow site, and colors are barred as well.
Mike Swan will serve as spiritual advisor, and Butch Roberts is the arena director.
