FARGO – The predicted peak of a moderate flood on the Red River here keeps dropping.

The National Weather Service predicted Thursday that the river – which is flooding due to recent rain running off frozen ground – would crest at around 27 feet on Friday night.

That prediction is down a foot from the forecast issued Wednesday and is 2 feet lower than a prediction issued Tuesday.

At noon Thursday, the Red River at Fargo-Moorhead was about 25.6 feet.
