A parade featuring the five Capital for a Day cities -- Detroit Lakes, Bemidji, Thief River Falls, New Ulm and Winona -- takes place at 2 p.m. in the Twin Cities. Each city also has the opportunity to showcase their city with one hour of entertainment and presentations. Detroit Lakes' is scheduled for 2:30-3:30 p.m.

So to ensure as many participants and supporters as possible, the city is sponsoring a coach bus to go down to the Twin Cities for a day. People are invited to ride for free.

"We're trying to get people to wear their Laker red and white and bring out pompoms, jersey, caps, whatever they've got and then those people would be going along in the parade," Chamber of Commerce President Kris Tovson said.

Carousel Park is the happening location for the five cities to display information from their community.

Tim Eggebraaten is going to perform during the entertainment portion of the hour, and Tovson said organizers are still looking for other entertainers to showcase.

During that time, they will also offer giveaways of WE Fest items, Lakeshirts clothing and more.

In the parade, Polar Pete, and members of the Becker County Historical Society will walk in period costumes. She said they are also trying to get more people and things that represent DL to go down to the Cities and participate in the parade as well.

"We're hoping to fill up the bus with 54 people, plus we're trying to contact the 4-H people that will already be down there with their animals, and hope they will come and participate," Tovson said.

"We really want to represent Detroit Lakes with all the seasons and with as much fanfare as we can and give them a good presentation and a good representation of materials."

Anyone interested in riding the bus down to the Twin Cities or participating in the parade can call Becky at the Chamber at 847-9202 or e-mail becky@visitdetroitlakes.com.
