Public meeting on proposed operating levy tonight in Audubon
The Lake Park-Audubon School District will hold a public meeting at 7:30 p.m. today at the Audubon Elementary School on its proposed operating levy increase.
A second meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the high school in Lake Park.
The district will ask residents on Nov. 3 to approve a seven-year, $750-per-student operating levy referendum.
That would replace the current operating levy of $500 per student that expires next year. It would cost the owner of a $100,000 homestead about $39 per year.
The current operating levy brings in about $343,000 per year.
That would increase to about $515,000 per year if the $750-per-student levy is approved.
An operating levy is used to pay general expenses for operating the schools -- it is not the same as a building bond levy, which would be used to build or renovate schools. The district is not seeking a building bond levy this year.
