Detroit Lakes Tribune and Becker County Record publisher Dennis Winskowski will add the Park Rapids Enterprise publisher position to his list of responsibilities beginning Aug. 25.

Winskowski is succeeding Rory Palm, who is leaving the Enterprise after seven years to become publisher of the Daily Republic in Mitchell, S.D. All of the newspapers are owned by Forum Communications Company of Fargo, N.D.

Winskowski oversees a group of newspapers for the company known as the Lakes Group, which includes Park Rapids, Detroit Lakes, Perham, Wadena, Alexandria and Morris. Adding the publishing duties in Park Rapids will mean more time in the Enterprise office for Winskowski. He returns to the Enterprise publisher’s position after having served in the same position in 1985 to 1986.

“Dennis hired some of the people in the Enterprise office and stops in there now. He is able to serve the community and staff well because of his depth of experience as well as his ability to be there,” said FCC director of newspapers Matt McMillan.

“It has been an honor to work for Dennis. He is an excellent mentor and leader who cares about his people and the product. The staff of the Enterprise have become a part of my family. I will miss each of them, and I know under Dennis’s leadership they will continue to be the hard-working, dedicated, game changers I’ve come to know. Park Rapids is a wonderful place to have lived and worked. It is a great community,” said Rory Palm.

“I’m really looking forward to again joining a great and committed Enterprise staff, most of whom I’ve know personally, and some who I’ve worked with professionally for nearly 30 years. This is home to Carol and me, and we fortunately have many good friends here,” Winskowski said.

Winskowski was president of the Minnesota Newspaper Association in 2000 to 2001.

He has been active in many civic organizations during the years and intends to be active in the community. The Park Rapids Enterprise is owned by Forum Communications Company, a multimedia information company based in Fargo, which owns dozens of newspapers, websites, television and radio stations and commercial printing plants in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Palm taking helm of  Daily Republic

Rory Palm is taking the helm of the Daily Republic Aug. 25.

Palm has been publisher of the Park Rapids Enterprise since 2007. He also served as general manager of the River Falls (Wisc.) Journal for nine years as well as a director for the group of newspapers that included the River Falls Journal.

In Park Rapids, Palm has been active as a member of Park Rapids Rotary, Park Rapids Chamber board of directors, and as an avid golfer.

In River Falls, Palm served on the board of directors of the chamber of commerce, as a volunteer baseball coach, president of the River Falls Youth Baseball board, volunteer hockey coach, River Falls Youth Hockey board member, United Methodist member, children’s education volunteer, and Main Street president.

He married his wife, Beth, in 1983. They both attended the University of Minnesota. They started their married life in Hardin, Mont., where Palm was the advertising manager of the Hardin Herald and Beth was a middle school English and reading teacher.

They have five children, two sons-in-law, and two grandchildren living in Indiana.

“The Daily Republic is an award-winning newspaper with an excellent reputation. I look forward to working with the staff and becoming a partner in its continued success,” Palm said.

“I’ve known Rory more than 15 years. He takes pride in his work and offers a nice combination of newspaper and media skills, a passion for civic involvement and a great sense of humor,” said FCC Director of Newspapers Matt McMillan. “He’ll build upon the award-winning tradition at the Daily Republic and help those around him enjoy that journey.”
