Quality Deer Management Association forms state chapter
In early January of 2010, the 4 existing branches of the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) in Minnesota formed a Minnesota State Chapter. The 4 branches who came together to form the State Chapter are: Prairie to Woods Whitetails Branch, Parkers Prairie, Mid Minnesota Branch, Perham/Detroit Lakes Area, Rum River Branch, Stanchfield/Cambridge, and the Southeastern Minnesota Branch, Rushford.
The Quality Deer Management Association is an international nonprofit wildlife conservation organization dedicated to ensuring the future of white-tailed deer, wildlife habitat, and our hunting heritage. The QDMA has over 50,000 members nationwide, including more than 3,000 of the nation's leading wildlife, forestry, and natural resource professionals. QDMA's scientific management philosophy, professional foundation, and the educational opportunities provided to its membership have resulted in a sharp rise in membership. In Minnesota alone, membership grew 80 percent in 2009.
QDMA promotes the four cornerstones of QDM: Herd Management, Habitat Management, Hunter Management, and Herd Monitoring. The Minnesota State Chapter of QDMA will work to promote both awareness of the QDMA and participation in the Association's management philosophy, Quality Deer Management (QDM).
QDM is a management philosophy that unites landowners, hunters, and managers in a common goal of producing biologically and socially balanced deer herds within existing environmental, social and legal constraints.
This new State Chapter is comprised of board members from each branch to represent QDMA as a whole in Minnesota. The officers are: Pat Morstad, President (Henning), Phil Goeden, Vice President (Alexandria), Bruce Hudalla, Treasurer (Perham) and Dave Schiller, Secretary (Detroit Lakes).
