Quinten R. Hjelter, 91, of Frazee, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Frazee Care Center.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, January 3 at the Furey Funeral Home in Frazee and at the Frazee Care Center for one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Monday, January 4 at the Frazee Care Center, with Roy Williams and Chris Swenson officiating. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Frazee with Military Rites provided by VFW Post 7702 of Frazee.
Quinten Ralph Conrad Hjelter was born to Rolf and Christina (Torkelson) Hjelter on November 8, 1918 in Adrian, N.D. He moved with his family to Frazee in 1921. He was a 1937 graduate of Frazee High School, and served with the U.S. Army, 1942-45, serving in a number of countries in Europe. Following his discharge, he worked for the Frazee Co-op Creamery and later farmed near Frazee.
Quinten was united in marriage to Emma Miliander on September 20, 1961 in Detroit Lakes. They farmed near Frazee and Quinten served as a state fire warden for 47 years, retiring upon entering the Care Center in September 2009. He also served on the Burlington Township Board for many years; was the caretaker at Lakeside Cemetery in Frazee and was the Past Commander of VFW Post 7702 in Frazee.
He enjoyed time with his family, farming, the outdoors, gardening and visiting.
Surviving Quinten are his wife, Emma Hjelter of Frazee; a daughter, Quenette (Kevin) Renollet of Frazee; and a grandson, Jason Rennolet of Frazee.
Preceding him in death were four sisters, Stella, Palma, Ethel and Elsie; and two brothers, Glen and William.
