Ogema native Rachel Doty, 93, of Moorhead, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at the Eventide Living Center in Moorhead.
Rachel Morrison was born the daughter of Alan and Gussie (Evers) Morrison on Oct. 16, 1915 in Ogema. She grew up in the Ogema area, and graduated from Waubun High School. Rachel married Leo Doty on Nov. 15, 1934. They made their home in Ogema, where they worked and raised their family.
In 1961, Rachel and Leo moved to Hillsboro, N.D., where she worked as a cook at the nursing home for many years (retiring three different times!). Leo passed away on Dec. 13, 1976. In 2006, Rachel moved to the Eventide Living Center in Moorhead, where she was living at the time of her death.
Rachel was very active at St. John Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, where she spent many hours quilting. Over the years, she also made countless hand stitched quilts, which she shared with her family and friends.
Rachel is survived by her son, Donald (Jean) Doty of Hawley; her daughter, Leola (Glenn) Davidson of Maddock, N.D.; her son-in-law, Glen Lougheed of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
Preceding Rachel in death were her husband, Leo; her siblings; her daughter, Doris Lougheed; and an infant son, Ronald.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7 at St. John Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, with visitation to be held for one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will take place in the spring at Immanuel Cemetery near Hillsboro.
