Raider boys’ golf progressing nicely
The Lake Park-Audubon boys’ golf team is showing improvement by leaps and bounds.
“We have had a place winner the last three meets,” said LP-A head coach Cole Wixo.
Dalton Kohler took third in the Pine To Prairie meet hosted at Forest Hills last Tuesday, May 1, showing a scorecard with a 38.
Chase Wiedmann shot a 40 to place second in Mahnomen Tuesday, May 6. Kohler posted another 38 in Ada Thursday, where he was the low score medalist. Wiedmann shot a 41 at Ada.
“The boys have been working extremely hard on the green to get their scores lower,” Wixo said. “We have seen so much improvement, and are excited to see what will happen when we finally get some nice weather.
“We have been playing in some pretty nasty conditions this spring, but the boys have sure shown more grit and tenacity than I have seen from any athletes in a long time. They are all putting in extra time on the course after practice and on the weekends.
“There have been countless nights where they have been on the range or putting green until well after the sun has set.”
Sam Whitehead, Clay Anderson, Chris Donovan and Charley McDunn have all posted some pretty good scores at various times this season as well.
“Now all we have to do is to put them all together,” Wixo added. “As a team, we have finished anywhere from 3-5 out of the 10 teams in our PTP conference meets.
“Mahnomen is the top dog right now, but Park Christian, Fosston, Norman County-Ada, and Bagley have all been taking turns in the top few positions at conference meets.
“Win, lose, or draw this season, I am extremely proud of the work that these young men have displayed and their games are beginning to show their work ethic, because it is beginning to pay off with lower scores as each meet passes.”
