Rebecca ("Becky") Lee Kostman Velez, 61, died peacefully at her home in Metairie, Louisiana, on Sunday, June 16, 2013.
Rebecca Kostman was born to Wilmer and Doris Kostman on August 23, 1952 in Alexandria, Minn. She graduated from high school in Barnesville, and attended college in Fergus Falls. In March of 1972, she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.
Rebecca graduated from the N.C.O. Academy in New Mexico, and was stationed with the Wild Weasel Squad at the Royal Thailand Air Force Base in Korat, Thailand.
After serving six years in the Air Force, Becky attended Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, La., and earned her degree in nursing.
On Oct. 8, 1983, she married Dr. Robert Velez, and they have one son, Ryan Christopher Velez of Metairie.
Surviving Rebecca are her son, Ryan; her parents, Wilmer (Bud) and Doris Kostman of Detroit Lakes; her brothers, Karl Kostman of Horace, N.D., and Kurt Kostman of Williston, N.D.; and a special niece, Sydney Marie, of Moorhead.
A memorial service for Becky will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 in the Northwest Harvest Barn Cowboy Church on Highway 34 East, Detroit Lakes.
Becky will be missed by all and is now at peace in God's hands.
