Red Bridge Film Festival announces lineup
The Red Bridge Film Festival, coming to Park Rapids later this month, has announced its 2011 lineup of films. Nine different programs will be shown a total of 30 times at the Park Theatre in downtown Park Rapids during this fourth annual event that runs from Friday, April 29 through Tuesday May 3.
This year's visiting filmmaker, Dr. Roy Hammerling, will introduce and discuss his production of "A Message From the East." Dr. Hammerling traveled from Concordia College in Moorhead to Pakistan with a Chicago crew to investigate the life and work of Pakistan's national poet, Muhammad Iqbal, who had been a friend of Gandhi and was instrumental in the creation of Pakistan as a nation.
"The Social Network," Oscar winner for best screenplay, music and editing, recreates the problematic founding of Internet phenomenon Facebook. Harvard life is tough, but computer geeks are tougher.
"The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" is based on the best-selling trilogy by Swedish novelist Stieg Larsson. It's like "The DaVinci Code" set in modern Sweden. Now see for yourself how the first book in the series translates to the screen. Europe's largest grossing film last year was so successful that a U.S. version was rushed into production.
A charming Irish comedy, "Waking Ned Devine," British drama "Made In Dagenham," documentary maker, George Gittoes' "Miscreants of Taliwood."controversial University of Minnesota production "Troubled Waters: A Mississippi River Story" and classic 1983 documentary "The River," Norwegian documentary "Suddenly Sami and "The Falun-R ros Expedition" round out the lineup.
