A fire broke out just before 11:30 p.m. at 30015 County Highway 1 in rural Underwood, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.

Five adults and a 7-week-old baby were in the house at the time of the fire. The baby and three adults were taken to Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls by ambulance to be treated for smoke inhalation and as a precaution, a release from the sheriff’s office stated.

The Red Cross is providing five nights of shelter for the residents in a Fergus Falls hotel, along with clothing and food, a news release from the Red Cross said stated.

It appears almost all clothing and furniture in the home the family was renting is lost, the release stated.

Red Cross Disaster Mental Health professionals will follow up with the family to provide emotional support later.

The family also has two yellow labs that T&A Boarding & Grooming in Fergus Falls has agreed to board until the family can find more permanent housing.

The sheriff’s office believes the fire was started by a window air conditioner or other electrical problems.
