Reier "Bud" Bakken, 84, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, July 8, 2011 at Essentia Health-Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.
Bud Bakken was born to Reier and Inga (Haaland) Bakken on September 21, 1926 in Hillsboro, N.D. They moved to rural Detroit Lakes when Bud was a young boy. He grew up and attended country school near his home.
On February 28, 1951 he was united in marriage to Charlotte Pojar in Callaway. They made their home and farmed in Richwood Township of rural Detroit Lakes. Bud and Charlotte worked side by side for many years on the farm.
Bud enjoyed farming, milking cows, cutting wood, deer hunting, and his dog, Teddy. He especially loved time spent with his grandchildren. He was never one to complain and always had a smile on his face.
Surviving Bud are his wife, Charlotte; two sons, Gary Bakken and Richard Bakken, both of Detroit Lakes; three daughters, Yvonne (Mike Ahles) Bakken of Detroit Lakes, Pam (John) Gobel of Detroit Lakes and Sandra (Mark) St. Cyr of Brooks, Minn.; and three grandchildren, Meghan, Samuel and Courtney Gobel.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Geneva Eggum.
Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 13 at Lund Lutheran Church, rural Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Lund Lutheran Cemetery, rural Detroit Lakes.
