Reservation economic summit slated Aug. 11-12
Red Lake, Leech Lake and White Earth Nations will hold the 2010 Northern Minnesota Economic Summit and Trade Show on Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 11-12 at Seven Clans Casino Hotel and Events Center in Red Lake.
The goal of this summit is to enhance business opportunities and foster economic growth from which Leech Lake, Red Lake and White Earth Tribal Nations will develop healthy and self-sufficient communities. The outcome and focus is to work together as "one", which will provide the Tribal Nations the resources to save valuable energy, then ultimately GO GREEN.
Registration begins both days at 8 a.m. with traditional ceremonies and blessings beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday with Collins Oakgrove performing the invocation and the P-Town Boys sharing the drum ceremony. A flag ceremony honoring the Nations will be presented by a group of Honor Guards from each Reservation.
A special welcome on Wednesday morning will be shared by Red Lake Nation's Chairman, Floyd 'Buck" Jourdain, Erma J. Vizenor, Chairwoman for the White Earth Nation and Arthur "Archie" LaRose, Chairman for Leech Lake Ojibwe. Other dignitaries, notable attendees and speakers will feature jack Stevens, Chief of the Division of Economic Development, Office of Indian Energy and Economic Development, Mary Olsen, Minnesota State Senator, Alana Peterson, State Director for Senator Al Franken, Mark Ritchie, Minnesota Secretary of State, David Glass, President, American Indian Economic Development Fund and Winona LaDuke, Executive Director, Honor the Earth. There will be entertainment by Keith Secola, Native Folk and Blues Rocker and World Champion Fancy Dancer Larry Yazzie on Wednesday evening.
