Richard Herbert "Dick" Wallin, age 75, of River Falls, Wis, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at his home.
He was born the son of Herbert and Gladys (Miles) Wallin on November 28, 1935 in Minneapolis. Dick entered into the Navy after High School and served during the Korean War. After coming home, he married Judy Abel in Minneapolis on February 6, 1959.
Dick and his wife Judy owned and operated the Red Owl Grocery Store in Detroit Lakes, Minn., Hudson and River Falls, Wis., from 1968 to 1988. Dick competed for three years in the Winnipeg 500 Snowmobile Race. He was very active in the Moose Lodge, River Falls American Legion Post 121, Shriners, and was a lifetime member of Ducks Unlimited and numerous other organizations.
He loved fishing, and hunting, but he especially enjoyed duck hunting. He carried Jimmy Robinson's legacy at the Sports Afield Duck Club in St. Ambroise, Manitoba. Most importantly Dick enjoyed spending time with his family.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Judy Wallin; a son, Rick (Jacque) Wallin; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Anderson; and further survived by numerous extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Wendy; and his parents.
A Celebration of Life for Dick is set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5 at Cashman-Hill Funeral Home in River Falls, Wis. Reverend Bill Montegomery will officiate. Memorial gathering will be from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Sunday.
As an expression of sympathy, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society in Dick's name.
