Richards earns spot on Elite team
Jon Richards of rural Callaway was recently named to the U-16 Minnesota team from the Minnesota Elite Prep Development League to compete in the NAHL Showcase Prospects Tourney, Sept. 20-23.
Playing for Team Northwest this fall, Richards competed the weekend of Aug. 24, which earned him a spot on the roster of 20.
Luke Jaycox of Warroad was also selected from Team Northwest.
A total of eight teams competed, with at least one player from each team representing the U-16 team.
The U-16 team began play Friday, Sept. 21, in the NAHL Prospects tournament, which features 178 games with NAHL, U-18 and U-16 divisions over five days.
The naming to the team caps off a busy summer for Richards, as he made it to the final 54 level in the Reebok High Performance program and also participated in the prospects camp with the Prince Albert Raiders, after being drafted by the WHL club the day after his Detroit Lakes Bantam A team competed in the state tourney this past spring.
