Rimes cancels WE Fest appearance; Byrd takes her place

A severe case of tonsillitis has sidelined country vocalist Leann Rimes on the eve of her WE Fest debut.

In a statement published Wednesday, Aug. 6 on her official Web site,, Rimes' publicist said that she would be postponing her performance at US99.5's Live Country Event in Chicago on Thursday, Aug. 7 and canceling her performance at WE Fest on Friday, Aug. 8.

"The Grammy award winner has a severe case of tonsillitis which has inflamed her vocal cords," the statement read. "She thanks her fans for their unwavering support and looks forward to entertaining them again in the near future."

Rimes' place in the lineup on Friday will be taken by Tracy Byrd. Currently on tour in the Midwest, Byrd will make a stop at Detroit Lakes' Soo Pass Ranch on Friday for a 5:45 p.m. show, then head on down the road to Deerbrook, Wis., for a Saturday appearance at Fuddfest.
