Robert G. "Bob" Kohler, 79, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, October 17, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Bob was born the son of Lester and Ruth (Dahlberg) Kohler on Feb. 19, 1929, in Detroit Lakes, where he was raised and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1947. As a young adult, Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force, and later received an honorable discharge. He married Marian Bird in Flaxton, N.D., on Dec. 30, 1951. Bob then began working for Soo Line Railroad, which he continued to do for 38 and a half years in Harvey, N.D., Enderlin, N.D., and Thief River Falls, Minn. During their retirement years, Bob and Marian made Little Cormorant Lake their home.
Bob was an avid sports fan, enjoyed traveling and was active at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving Bob are his daughters, Rene (Bill) Noonan and Vicki Kirkhorn, both of Moorhead; son, Jeff Kohler, also of Moorhead; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; brother, John (Patricia) Kohler of Detroit Lakes; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Bob in death were his parents; wife, Marian (2003); son, Robert Eric Kohler (1983); an infant sister, one half-sister and two half-brothers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.
Memorial services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, rural Audubon.
